Last week, I was holding over an airport due to severe weather. There was a thunderstorm with heavy rain (+TSRA) around the airport, causing very poor visibility and strong winds. We were preparing to start our approach, but two other aircraft were holding ahead of us.
While holding, lightning struck the cockpit, temporarily blinding the captain. Covering his eyes, the captain said ‘YOU HAVE’ and transferred control to the first officer.
The first officer took control, initially appearing very nervous and confused by the sudden situation. However, he quickly calmed down, continued the approach, and landed safely. Throughout this period, radio communication was also out of service.
