ICAO ELP Japan Exam Report (SP-14 / FC-22) — May 2023 (Report #2) | Real Pilot Experience

🌍 Japan 📅 May 2023

Single Picture — Scene:

Picture: SP-14
The plane just before spot in is approaching the apron. Heavy snow outside. The marshaller guides you towards spot in. The light on the marshaller’s left hand guide rod is out. The airplane’s anti-collision light and position light are on. There is a wingman. Six staff members wearing fluorescent vests are watching over the lamps.

Single Picture — Examiner Questions:

I mentioned that there are lights on the plane, but what does that mean, and what other lights are there?
One side of the marshaller’s stick has a light on and the other side is off, but is this normal?
Is there anything you should be concerned about when taxiing and spotting in the snow?

Sequence Type: 4-Panel

Sequence Picture — Scene:

Picture: FC-22

1.TSRA around the airport during the APP. VIS R200.
2. There is already a Holding aircraft in the sky. I will also be in Holding. Then lightning hit.
3. CAP covers his eyes due to lightning hit near the cockpit.
4.It ended with FO feeling impatient because I have.

question.
Are planes equipped with anything to protect them from lightning? “It is not possible to avoid lightning, but there is a static discharger to reduce the damage.”
Is lightning inevitable?
What should I do as FO after this?

ATC / Examiner Notes:

ATC-1 As additional initial information, there was a picture of the VA CLD TOP being FL300, and I was asked, “If I saw this, what would I do as a pilot?” and I reported my VA PIREP to ATC.
There is also a picture where the VA extends to the right in the direction of travel, and the wind is blowing from the left. When asked, “Aren’t you trying to avoid the volcanic ash cloud by moving up?” the answer was, “The visible volcanic ash is around FL300, but the invisible volcanic ash may also be flying higher, so it’s better to avoid it upwind.”
